- Getting a preconception checkup to look for problems that may occur during pregnancy.
- Get to a healthy weight. You don't want to be to skinny or to overweight.
- Don't smoke, drink alcohol, or take street drugs.
- Don't use harmful chemicals at home or at work when cleaning, or doing any activity the requires it. May cause birth defects to baby.
- Exercise for about 30 minutes a day. Being active is good for pregnancy.
- Lower stress. Don't stress about the little things in life.
- Treat health conditions before you get pregnant. This could cause baby to be born with defects.
- Identify health conditions that run in your family or your partners family.
- Focus on your health at least 3 months before you plan on getting pregnant.
- Eat healthy foods, Take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid in it each day.
