Folic Acid

1. Foods that are rich in folic acid include: lentil,garden asparagus, avocado,citrus, and maize.
2. if you don't eat enough foods that are rich in folic acid you should take a supplement.
3. you should start taking folic acid supplements at least 3 months prior to conception.
4. Your child could develop nueral tube defects such as Spina Bifita, which is where your spinal colum doesn't close completeley, or anencephaly, which is where your baby is still born.
5.Folic acid id very good for you and if you know someone who is planning on getting pregnant you should tell them about it.

Getting Healthy Before Pregnacy


  • Getting a preconception checkup to look for problems that may occur during pregnancy.
  • Get to a healthy weight. You don't want to be to skinny or to overweight.
  • Don't smoke, drink alcohol, or take street drugs.
  • Don't use harmful chemicals at home or at work when cleaning, or doing any activity the requires it. May cause birth defects to baby.
  • Exercise for about 30 minutes a day. Being active is good for pregnancy.
  • Lower stress. Don't stress about the little things in life.
  • Treat health conditions before you get pregnant. This could cause baby to be born with defects.
  • Identify health conditions that run in your family or your partners family.
  • Focus on your health at least 3 months before you plan on getting pregnant.
  • Eat healthy foods, Take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid in it each day.

Multiple Intelligences

Multiple intelligences are the way people learn, and how they best learn.My top four multiple intelligences are, Visual-Spatial, Intrapersonal,Interpersonal, musical, and Bodily kinesthetic. Visual means that you like to see things. Intrapersonal means that you have and awarness and expression of fear. Interpersonal means that you can relate to relationships or communicate with people. Musical means that you have a sensitivity to sounds. Bodily Kinesthetic means that you like to have a hands on experince.

Chapter 1 Vocabulary

Human Development- Amazing Gradual process in which people change from birth to adulthood.

Physical Development-Changes in size, body composition, chemical make-up,and height that occur as humans develop from birth to adulthood.

Gross-Motor Skills-Large muscle movements such as crawling, walking, and jumping.

Fine-motor Skills-small movements such as cutting with scissors, typing on a keyboard,  and writing with a pen or pencil.

Cognition-actions or processes involving thinking and knowing.

Cognitive Development-the way people change and grow in how they think over the stages of life.

Socio-Emotional Development-Changes In the way a persons social relationships, feelings, social skills, self esteem, gender identity, and ways of coping with situations over time.

Heredity-traits people are born with.

Environment-All of a persons surroundings and people in them.

Nature vs Nurture Debate-Debate between genetic versus environmental influences on development.

Continuity-process of development


Discontinuity-process of development spurred by abrupt changes

Pedagogy-parent directed method of learning.

Andragogy- development is self-directed from the earliest stages of infancy
